5 Social Media Marketing Trends Expected for the Year 2022

With the COVID-19 hit, things changed immensely from both the consumer and producer end. Social media, which was once used as a leisure and a life-update medium, has now fast-tracked its way to being a virtual tool for education, shopping, experiences, community building, and much more.

According to the 2019 Pew Research Center research on social media use in the United States showed that 72% of American adults use some form of social media. In 2005, the year after Facebook went live, that number was 5%.

Moving forward, let’s have a look at some distinguished social media trends expected for the year 2022:

  1. Shoppable posts and Livestream shopping

To ease the process of shopping, we have recently seen shoppable links in social media platforms which makes it easier for the consumer to quickly buy what they see, without having to visit the website.

Another expected trend for e-commerce is Livestream shopping, which allows virtual buyers to easily shop while getting their questions answered. Livestream shopping definitely allows a seamless e-commerce shopping experience and is a next-level step moving forward.

As per Coresight Research. The U.S. Livestream shopping market is expected to reach $11 billion by the end of 2021 and $25 billion by 2023.

In China, Livestream shopping escalated from $66 billion in 2019 to $150 billion in 2020 according to iResearch, a market research firm based in Shanghai. Coresight expects China’s Livestream shopping sales to reach $300 billion in 2021.

2. User-Generated Content

User-generated content is not a new concept, however, it is expected to be more in-focus for the years to come. It is essential to build a sense of trust with your audience and people trust User-generated content more than professionally curated content.

Hence it is expected that brands, big and small, would be focusing on reposting UGC as it helps in authenticating the brand image.

3. Personalized Experiences Drive Engagement

Personalized experiences are preferred by people more than generic ones. Naturally, people are more likely to respond and engage with the content that is specifically tailored to them. Every nine in ten marketers are making efforts in improving the personalized content for their audience.

Factors such as persona, location, and behavior play a vital role in creating personalized content for the audience. Moreover, brands are also focusing on personalized live-chat options for a better customer experience.

4. Influencer Marketing Thrives

Influencer marketing is yet another old trend however, we don’t see it going anywhere. It will continue to flourish and evolve even in the years to come as it is a very essential social media marketing tool.

The way it is evolving is that it is no more about getting products endorsed by celebrities rather the focus has shifted more towards practicality.

The users now prefer content that

  • Highlights the brand’s value

  • Displays the products or services usability

  • Explains about brand’s product or service

Rather than going for people who are famous, now the trend is shifting towards more relevant users of the said product which increases the credibility and authentication of the products.

5. Creators More in-focus

The creator community isn’t something recent and has been around for about a decade. After the pandemic, the concept is encouraged even more. It is also expected that brands would be outsourcing their marketing solutions to content creators to ensure a more global reach. These creators are individuals (or teams) who write, edit, design, and film content to publish on social media with an entrepreneurial motivation.

As of 2021, 50 million people consider themselves to be creators on social networks. And businesses are set to spend $15 billion on influencer marketing by 2022. This is a great way for brands to spread their word out and for creators to get associated with well-established brands.
